The Capitole


A stroll to the Capitole

Iconic and spectacular, the Capitole de Toulouse is a must-see monument. Founded by the capitouls in 1190, the Capitole has been the seat of municipal power for over eight centuries. The eight columns of its Caunes-Minervois marble façade represent the first eight capitouls of the pink city. Inside, the walls depict the city’s history from the XII century to the present day. A walk to the Capitole means entering Toulouse through the main door!

Not to be missed:

  • The Salle des Illustres, listed as a Historic Monument adorned with the work of eight painters and 6 sculptors, including Jean-Laurens, Paul Gervais, Constant, Pujol

  • The Salle Henri Martin

  • The Salle Gervais decorated around the theme of Love
